Hello, I am Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgül Gergin, I took the first important step in my educational life by graduating from Cağaloğlu Anatolian High School in 1999. In the same year, I started my medical education at Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine and made my dream of becoming a doctor a reality in 2005. Immediately after my graduation, I worked as a general practitioner in Kars Kağızman within the scope of my state service obligation. A year later, I passed the Medical Speciality Examination and started my specialty training at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Otorhinolaryngology. During this period, I had the opportunity to study at Yale University for a semester and the experiences I gained here gave my professional journey an international perspective.
After completing my specialty training at Marmara University, I completed my state service obligation at Adıyaman Kahta State Hospital. Then, while working as a specialist doctor at Ümraniye Training and Research Hospital, I decided to specialise in Paediatric Otorhinolaryngology. This decision brought me to Harvard University Boston Children's Hospital in 2014-2015, where I completed my subspecialty training in the field of ENT for children. During this period, I had the chance to make scientific publications in the field of Paediatric Airway Surgery and completed my laboratory studies. After completing my Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Subspecialty training at Harvard University, I won the scholarship application for Paediatric Otorhinolaryngology Subspecialty training given by the European Paediatric Otorhinolaryngology Association.
In 2016, I received the title of Fellow of the European Board of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery. I am also a member of the European Paediatric Otorhinolaryngology Association and the Turkish Paediatric Otorhinolaryngology Association. As a result of my studies in Europe and America, my publications were awarded many prizes. With all these trainings, I gained a good position in both the European and American Paediatric Otorhinolaryngology community. After my studies abroad, my desire to continue working in my country prevailed and I continued my studies here. In 2022, I had the honour of reaching the title of Associate Professor. After my duties in public and private hospitals, I am currently taking care of my patients in my own practice.
Throughout my career, I have actively participated in scientific studies and followed innovative treatment methods by attaching importance to continuous self-improvement. I have adopted the principle of taking care of each patient individually by showing a compassionate, reliable and respectful approach to my patients. In this way, I play an important role in helping them regain their health. In my professional life, I have specialised in general ENT and surgical fields, especially in pediatric otolaryngology, and I effectively serve both children and adults in these fields. I can communicate fluently in English and German. Besides my professional life, sports is also an important passion for me. I take care to stay fit both mentally and physically with yoga, fitness, swimming and kitesurfing. I also have a son; the time I spend with him brings me the greatest happiness.
