What is laryngomalacia?

Laryngomalacia is a congenital weakness of the muscles and cartilage structures of the larynx (larynx), usually seen in infants. This weakness causes the larynx to be softer than normal, which can lead to problems with the passage of air when breathing and speaking. Laryngomalacia becomes apparent in the first few months after birth and usually resolves spontaneously in the first years of babies' lives.
