Acute Otitis

Acute Otitis

Acute otitis refers to a sudden infection in the ear and usually begins with inflammation in the middle ear area. Fluid accumulation in the middle ear is one of the main symptoms of this inflammation. This causes an increase in pressure behind the eardrum and can result in severe ear pain. Acute otitis is particularly common among children because their eustachian tubes are shorter and horizontal, which makes it easier for infections to spread.
